Easy, accessible, casual. TanBuri is everything a quick lunch spot should be and more.
The centre of KL is a cacophony of sights, sounds, and smells. A city always on the go, the sheer profusion of stimuli can make even the simplest of choices, like where to eat, seem daunting. That age-old dilemma has now gotten just that little easier to solve with the arrival of TanBuri, a fresh, novel concept that takes Indian tandoori cooking and crosses it with Japanese donburi rice bowls. This eclectic fusion is also from where the restaurant derives its name (“tan” for tandoori and “buri” for donburi).

Colourful and casual, the interior beckons diners with the promise of delicious meals served in relaxed settings. Stepping away from the hustle and bustle of Jalan Sultan Ismail and into the tranquil settings of the Hyatt Centric City Centre KL, you’ll notice TanBuri immediately to your left; its attention-grabbing façade will make sure of it. Walk past the drinks bar, and you’ll catch a glimpse of the chefs hard at work over the piping hot custom charcoal tandoors in the open kitchen.

As you sit down and unfold the menu, it’ll no doubt strike you that the dishes here seem at once different and yet somehow familiar. This is, of course, by design. The head chef, a native of India, has made it his objective to include the traditional flavours beloved by so many but assembled them in such a way that the end result still manages to surprise, resulting in a perfectly tuned balance of both the old and the new.
Standout dishes include the ‘LambBuri’, a dish that consists of smoky, tender lamb baked in rich tandoori flavours and complemented by fresh condiments such as baba ghanoush and pomegranate. Another signature item is the ‘Nanini’. A portmanteau of “naan” and “panini,” the ‘Nanini’ is a tandoor-grilled naan sandwich unique to the restaurant, available with an array of sumptuous fillings such as chicken tikka, lamb kebab, and mushroom.

The beverage section is not to be missed either, offering a varied selection that includes Indian sodas, lassis, coffee, and even kombucha. There’s also wine and beer for those fond of a tipple with their meals. Whether you’re looking for a hearty breakfast to kickstart your day, a quick and easy lunch, or a more laid-back dinner altogether, TanBuri manages to hit that spot—and then some. It’s definitely worth a visit if you ask us, and more than likely, a return.
Reserve your table here and savour an experience unlike any other.
