Bean There, Turks That: World Turkish Coffee Day 2025

It’s World Turkish Coffee Day, and Malaysia is invited to a cup steeped in tradition, simmered in taste.

Every sip tells a story, and this steeps in truth especially with Turkish coffee. It’s a sip that spills more than what a fincan has to reveal to your table, saturating in Turkish tradition, culture, and day-to-day customs. Remarkably, it’s not truly about the beans, but the method whilst preparing it. Ergo, on this celebratory day, the Embassy of the Republic of Türkiye Tourism and Information Office at the Türkiye Ambassador’s residence invites Malaysia to an exclusive luncheon to honour such inspiring instance.

“Coffee has long been at the heart of Türkiye’s social and cultural life, and Turkish Coffee Day is a wonderful opportunity to share this rich tradition with the world. Each cup tells a story of heritage, and hospitality that has been passed down through generations.” Noted H.E. Emir Salim Yüksel, Ambassador of Türkiye to Kuala Lumpur.

Gracing the guests with soft smiles and neighbourly wit are the Cultural and Tourism Affairs Counsellor, Mustafa Korkutata, along with H.E. Emir Salim Yüksel, Ambassador of Türkiye to Kuala Lumpur. This was an afternoon accenting Turkish coffee and its significance upon growing as Türkiye’s first “traditional product name” officially written in the European Union (EU).

Featuring first, a video presentation introducing the history, heritage, and artistry of Turkish coffee. It’s a cup to delight in neither before nor amid breakfast, but after. Threading on rich aroma and rustic accents, Turkish coffee awakens more than the morning whirs, sparking up conversations where warm hospitality slips in within. Stretching more than 500 years—even sailing across Europe borders as coffee beans were a token traded to traverse.

In the same sift, Turkish coffee is a smooth operator for conversations to stream, flowing first in coffeehouses and then to homes. Today, it’s a tradition married into every day’s breath, think a pause that invites connections, stirs up chatters; and today? It’s a celebratory cup, rejoicing in a history since the 16th century, right here in Malaysia.

Imagine Turkish coffee as a personality, one that draws everyone into a corner as the tales it shares are simply a taste too sincere to walk away from. The trick? The brewing technique. A method as age-old as it is a maestro who won against time and technology. Very finely ground beans roasted to a gentle char, with cold water and sugar, in a small, long-handled pot—cezve.

Hissing out a thick foam when the coffee is brought to the brink of a boil, perfect froth to cap your fincan—petite porcelain coffee cups. Next to this Turkish brew? A glass of water, perhaps a taste of Turkish delight or a bite of baklava, and you have yourself a Turkish custom nestled in a cup. In a similar fashion, there’s such a proverb wherein you’re committed to forty years of friendship once offered Turkish coffee!
