From Japanese and local flavours to free-flow dim sum and prosecco, these Mother’s Day menus are designed to impress without trying too hard.
Mother’s Day, Asian-style, doesn’t come with a fixed script. One family leans into a full home-cooked spread, another books flights, and someone else checks into a hotel just to avoid doing the dishes. And then there’s the crowd that shows up for afternoon tea. If that’s your lane this year, here are a few KL spots serving up teatime with personality and enough flair to keep Mum impressed.

At Lemon Garden, Mother’s Day plays out against koi ponds and greenery until the buffet line calls your name. The spread moves comfortably between international favourites and local throwbacks, but it’s the little indulgences that do the flirting: burrata assembled to order, lobster eggs Benedict, smoked salmon crêpes, and a rose crème brûlée that doesn’t try too hard to be pretty. Add handmade truffles and you’ve got a table that refuses to rush.

At Level 42 of Mercu Aspire, Kindan’s ‘Hana Garden Afternoon Tea’ leans into Japanese precision without losing its sense of fun. Expect wagashi that feel almost too delicate to eat—strawberry daifuku, sakura nerikiri, Mont Blanc daifuku—paired with rose and jasmine tea or lychee black tea. It runs until 16 May, which gives you just enough time to treat mummy dearest to something phenomenal.

At The Librari in The RuMa Hotel and Residences, things take a slightly different turn with a distinctly local pulse. This year’s collaboration with Lladró unfolds as ‘Chapters of Craft Afternoon Tea’, where porcelain pieces share the table with a menu that feels carefully composed rather than overworked.
Chef Suhalmi Tasir leads with a polished Salmon Wellington, followed by playful tarts riffing on sticky nasi dagang, chicken gulai, and rendang tok—presented on a traditional congkak board as a nod to Malayan heritage—with delicate figurines catching the eye between bites.
The sweet chapter, courtesy of Être Patisserie, leans into familiar comforts with a twist: Mango Gâteau, Teh Tarik Mousse Cake, and Ipoh White Coffee Tart. It doesn’t stop there—scones, cempedak madeleines, ayam masak merah quiche, and sambal anchovies mantou round things out in a French-Malaysian mix that feels intentional, not overthought. Running until 30 June, it’s one to linger over.

At UMI Japanese Restaurant, the ‘UMI Mummy Bliss’ five-course menu leans into modern Japanese with a soft spot for luxury. Think truffle, caviar, pristine seafood, and an optional wagyu upgrade if you’re feeling generous. Prefer something more relaxed? Roselle Coffee House hosts a one-day high tea buffet on 10 May that keeps things easy, with enough variety to keep everyone happily occupied.

At Yen at W Kuala Lumpur, Mother’s Day comes in the form of a 90-minute unlimited ‘Yum Cha at Yen’ session—because sometimes the best gift is uninterrupted dim sum. Expect a steady parade: crystal prawn dumplings, cod fish, Hokkaido dried scallops, chilled bird’s nest with rock melon, and mini barbeque polo buns that disappear faster than you can order another round.

Not quite afternoon tea, but no one’s complaining. Fifty-eight floors up at Banyan Tree Kuala Lumpur, lunch arrives with a view that does most of the convincing. At Horizon Grill, Chef Francesco Fedrighi keeps things firmly in the Western lane: Bone Marrow, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Steak au Poivre, Australian Rack of Lamb, while free-flow prosecco keeps the mood light. Just when you think you’ve reached a sensible stopping point, the Apple Tarte Tatin lands and changes your plans.
Whether you’re going all out or just showing up with good intentions, these spots make a solid case for stretching Mother’s Day well beyond a single meal.
