The Thermomix TM7 Is Here And Chef Sid Murshid Puts Malaysian Recipes To The Test

Thermomix Malaysia’s Ambassador Chef Sid Murshid digs into the flavours and memories that continue to shape his Malaysian palate.

Ask any Malaysian about a dish they grew up eating and chances are, you’ll get more than a recipe. You’ll possibly get several stories. A favourite hawker stall, a grandmother with very strong opinions about sambal, or that one dish nobody in the family can seem to recreate quite the same way. For Thermomix Malaysia Ambassador Chef Sid Murshid, many of those memories begin in Muar, Johor.

In conjunction with Merdeka, Sid has teamed up with Thermomix Malaysia for the Malaysian Flavours Collection, a recipe collection that revisits familiar local flavours through memory, creativity, and a little kitchen technology.

The collection includes dishes inspired by Sid’s childhood, including apam balik and lamb satay, nodding to the markets, roadside stalls and weekend food adventures that helped shape his palate. Elsewhere, ayam percik and nasi ulam bring the spirit of communal dining to the table, while a Teh Tarik Crème Brûlée gives the beloved mamak staple a rather unexpected second career as dessert.

Then there’s the Pandan Coconut Frappe, proving that pandan and coconut are more than happy to leave the kuih tray and venture into new territory.

Helping bring these recipes together is the new Thermomix TM7, which takes on much of the kitchen’s heavy lifting, from grinding rempah and blending to steaming and slow-cooking. The idea isn’t to replace the cook, but perhaps to make the journey from “I miss my mum’s cooking” to actually attempting it slightly less intimidating.

The collection also features recipes by Thermomix Malaysia’s R&D Chef Mandy Kee, including roti canai, nyonya laksa, ondeh ondeh, pandan muah chee, and kaya burnt cheesecake.

Because Malaysian food has always evolved. Recipes travel, change hands, and occasionally get turned into crème brûlée. What matters is that the flavours and the stories behind them continue to find their way back to the table.
